It began as a joke , ‘do you remember Jean Michelle at the London Docklands arena 1989 rockin’ the lightharp?’ But then we rewound fifteen years earlier to the mid seventies and excavated Oxygene. I’m not embarrassed that I like Jean Michelle Jarre - I’m too old, and that album genuinely operates on an emotional level. Also it’s interesting to note that he made it in his kitchen, which to me lends it a certain kind of sincerity, how many great works have been created in Kitchens? . This print doesn’t have much to do with Oxygene other than that was what I was most listening to at the time, maybe they share similar epic pretentions.

I’m not sure about the word Zine. I hate saying the word… zeeeen…. However if I called this a maga-zine then perhaps people would automatically expect a certain amount of professionalism or at the very least quality – No, I’m forced to accept ‘Zine’. A screenprinted cover protecting carefully photocopied images of all* of the Show Below artists… plus a few special gatecrashers.

The Holy Mountain

Alejandro Jodorowsky is probably best known (in the UK) for making El Topo. I first became aware of him through his comics such as the Incal and the Metabarons, illustrated by the illuminated Moebius. Recently I was invited to contribute to a forthcoming exhibition called Cinemascope. I decided to do a poster celebrating his second film The Holy Mountain.

I was priviliged to be granted an oppotunity to show my support for my local boozer through the much overlooked and under rated medium of chalk boards (even though there is no chalk to be found actually on them) They turned out a touch more lego than anticipated, an added bonus.
